Ask the Editors: What Happened To My Favorite ATV Magazines
Still fighting the good fight.
At the moment a few still remain but this pandemic business is doing really heavy damage to publishing as a whole. Magazines make money on the advertising within their pages. Contrary to common misconception, subscriptions and news stand sales don’t bring in enough to even cover the cost of printing and shipping.
Ours is one of many industries where factories are still locked down, unit sales are struggling, events and gatherings are being cancelled – these all take a toll on participating company’s advertising budgets. Not to mention it’s a struggle to secure models for testing/ press events and so on in this current clime. All of this is placing tremendous strain on the few magazines that do remain. All of that being said – here is a list of the magazines we confirmed are still doing their thing:
Dirt Wheels – One of the most popular ATV magazines in the world, Dirt Wheels is still publishing twelve issues per year.
UTV Action – Stable mate to Dirt Wheels, this magazine that was formerly known as 3 & 4 Wheel Action is published monthly.
ATV & SxS Illustrated – Print issues are produced bimonthly.
ATV World – Canada’s entrant still comes on the scene six times per year.
ATV Trail Rider – Another Canadian publication, ATV Trail Rider is also published in print six times per year and boasts very reasonable subscription rates.
Additionally, some mags have moved to the realm of digital only platforms – check out UTV Off Road Magazine or UTV Sports for some free examples of these.
Here are just a few of the ATV print magazine casualties we’ve suffered in the past decade or so:
