Ask The Editors: Who Makes Coleman ATVs
A collaboration between two solid companies.

Dear ATVC: I’ve long considered Coleman camping equipment among the most reliable. I see they now make ATVs and side-by-sides. Have you tested one of their products? Would you recommend them for someone looking to get their first vehicle?

While we haven’t had direct experience with the Coleman line, we have had limited time with machines themselves as they are manufactured by Chinese brand HISUN.

While we ordinarily advise readers to steer clear of off-brand Chinese machinery, HISUN is one of very few who has proven quite reputable throughout the years. With actual dealership networks, cataloged parts support and warranties, HISUN is proof that it’s not an area you need to be wary of, rather the way a company conducts itself. And they pass with flying colors.

As far as the name Coleman, though – that’s the power of branding in action. All companies seek brands with favorable reputations and, hopefully, those that inspire images of the off-road lifestyle. And as for the owner of the branding, they benefit by having a line of complicated and pricey equipment without the obligation of building factories, assembly lines, distributor networks etc. When done correctly, it’s a win/win situation.

Plus the partnership of these two companies is unique in that Coleman Powersports has an actual US presence (headquartered in Tempe, AZ and been around since 2010), so you’re technically getting an additional assurance of quality. With two facilities and 85 employees between them, final assembly and tuning happens here in the US before the units are shipped off to retailers such as Lowes, Tractor Supply, and Academy to mention a few.
