ATV Industry Facts: Did You Know?
Wearing the future on your head.

Long dead are the days of helmets being constructed of a a slab of curved fiberglass with a layer of foam for impact absorption. Take LS2’s MX470 Subverter helmet for example; it uses a shell of Kinetic Polymer Alloy (KPA) which consists of synthetic fibers manipulated on a nano level (that’s one billionth of a meter to you and me).

By mastering molecules at this scale (proprietary polymers blended with composites), LS2 is able to make a shell both lighter and stronger than anything that existed before it but perhaps most interesting, they can integrate a degree of flex into the exterior to better absorb the energy of impact.

Inside they integrate internal, energy absorbing EPS- that combines crumple zone technology with in-molding technology. By attaching an internal, polycarbonate protective layer between the EPS and the comfort padding, LS2 creates a surface that is slick and works just like your scalp. It allows the comfort liner just a bit of slippage to help offset and diminish rotational energy and dramatically improve the dissipation of energy absorbed by the EPS.

Bonus Fact: Perhaps the best part of modern material technology? The prices are a fraction of what yesteryear’s best of the best retailed. The cost of the LS2 MX470 Subverter used for this article’s example? $199
