Dare to Be Stupid: ATV Connection's Best Poll Ever

Maybe it’s because I’ve never been accused of being the sharpest tool in the shed, but I’ve always thought it’s better to be lucky than smart. And some of the most fun I’ve ever had were doing things that were at best, sketchy and at worst, completely idiotic. So a couple months back, when the other editors and I were sitting around trying to think of poll ideas, my mind immediately jumped to the dumbest things ATV Connection members have done with their rides. I figured that we’d get some good stories out of it—and I wasn’t disappointed. The stories ran the gamut, but the ones below are some of my favorites.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I think someone has to be drinking a particularly potent form of awesome to actually manage to run themselves over. And while Bluebeard442 didn’t happen to mention what he’d had to drink before this incident, it sounds like it was the some serious stuff.

“i was riding in the back trails behind my folks, the trails are really windy, uphill downhill sideways all that fun stuff, it just finished raining so thought 2 take a lil ride. got on the quad driving away on the trails, i alwyas use the peak of the hill as a kicker, did a couple times no problem so i got braver and did it a lil faster on a narrow trail well the seat was wet so as soon as the quad jumped up i slipped off and my leg went underneath the quad and it drove right over me.. i had the bear claw tiers on so after i got up ran after the quad shut it off i feel a slight pain on my ass, when i got drivin over the quad tires made a perfect bruise on my ass of the same shape as those bear claw grip pattern,, i was rlly happy no 1 saw that lol…”

Isn’t it great when one of your buddies can look at a bruise and tell exactly what happened? Another case of inspired idiocy comes courtesy of Beergut, whose drive toward self improvement resulted in a somewhat novel choice of exercise equipment.

“I once tried using my XP 850 as a bench press. didn’t work out so well. Turns out it’s a lot easier sitting on top of your atv and keeping it from flipping over, than it is being between a rock and your atv trying to press it off you… who knew”

That’s truly inspirational stuff there, Beergut. We should all be so bold. But when I was reading through all the responses to this poll, there was one that stood out for its sheer audacity. Of course, anybody who buys a new ATV is going to be chomping at the bit to ride it, but only the most dedicated would take action like our man Hippie Robert Nixon did:

“attempted to ride newly bought quad from where i bought it to home which is about 320mile broke down about 20mile from the start”

We’re all still wondering how he thought he could pull this off. Where does he live? How much of the journey would have been off road? How drunk was he when he decided to attempt this incredible journey? But unfortunately, the post is rather thin on detail. If you’re reading this Hippie Robert Nixon, please give us a little more detail. We’d really love to know everything there is to know about this aborted trek.

Head over to the forum to see some other other hilarious responses, and tell us about your dumbest moments with your ATV. It’s OK, we’re all friends here! >>
