Chandler’s Law Passed

The ATV safety community has witnessed the enactment of “Chandler’s Law,” which is aimed at protecting South Carolina’s young ATV riders through rider training, parental supervision, the use of proper safety gear, and prohibitions on children riding adult-sized models.

The event in the state capitol included South Carolina native Inez Tenenbaum, chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Senator Brad Hutto of South Carolina, representatives from the ATV Safety Institute and Pam and Steve Saylor, whose son Chandler died in an ATV crash in 2003. Signed in May by Gov. Nikki Haley, the new law takes effect tomorrow.

Chandler’s Law is based on Model State ATV Safety Legislation, created by the not-for-profit Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA). This model legislation has been promoted and proposed to South Carolina and states throughout America by the SVIA for more than two decades.

Key among provisions contained in the SVIA’s model legislation is the call for proper training for all riders, which is readily available. The ASI provides free instruction for all purchasers of new ATVs, and the major ATV manufacturers provide an incentive, up to 0 for buyers to complete the half-day training course.

An online training course and much more safety information is available at www.atvsafety.org

Holz Quick Release Fire Extinguisher Mount Released

Holz Racing Products introduces their new 2-piece Fire Extinguisher Mount. This quick-release Mount fits any roll cage with 1.5-2 inch diameter tubing. It attaches to the roll bar and fire extinguisher with stainless steel hose clamps (included). The Mount is made from TIG welded 4130 chromoly steel with black zinc finish and includes a ball-locking pin. ATV Race Coverage

Team Warnert Racing / Can-Am DS 450 racer Adam McGill won round eight of the 2011 Can-Am GNCC Racing series this past weekend at Snowshoe Ski Resort in West Virginia. The victory moved McGill to within seven points of the XC1 (Pro class) points lead. McGill’s teammate Chris Bithell finished second aboard his DS 450 sport ATV to move into third place in the points standings.

Motoworks / Can-Am DS 450 racer Josh Creamer won the second Pro-class moto and took the overall win in the Pro-Am class at round five of the New England ATV Motocross Series held at MX 207 in Lyman, Maine. BCS Performance / Can-Am racer Cody Miller earned a Pro-Am class podium as well.

Twin Air rider Dustin Wimmer had a great day at the starting gate. In Moto 1 of the Pro Class Wimmer took the holeshot and never looked back. He led the Moto start to finish with little competition from his fellow racers. Moto 2 of the Pro Class would start off the same as Moto 1, but class rival and former teammate Josh Creamer would get around Wimmer on the first jump of the track. Wimmer stayed on him the entire Moto but was unable to make the pass.

After Moto 2 Wimmer had this to say: “This track is really one lined, so it’s really hard to pass out there, I was on him the whole time, but he never made a mistake,” Based on his first Moto win and second place in Moto 2, Wimmer was able to take the overall win in the Pro Class. Josh Creamer took home his second overall with 4-1 Moto finishes. Rounding out the Pro Class podium was Jasmin Plante who finished the day with a 2-3.

Wimmer holds the points lead in both the Pro and Pro-Am classes. In the Pro Class Wimmer leads Creamer 262 to 238. In the Pro-Am Class he leads Creamer 280 to 210. The next round of NEATV-MX takes the riders to Hemonds MX in Minot, ME on July 10th.

Holz Racing and Walker Evans Racing enjoyed another victory over the weekend, which was served up courtesy of RJ Anderson and his RZR XP. The Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah hosted Rounds 7 & 8 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series June 25-26. Anderson piloted the Holz Racing-built RZR XP 900 through the pack to win the top honors in Unlimited UTV Class. This should position Anderson at the top of the Championship points standings.

RJ’s next UTV race will be Rounds 9 & 10 of the Lucas Off Road Racing Series at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA on August 6-7.
