Ultra4 Announced Electric (EV) Race Series
Electric revolution this summer.

Ultra4 Racing announced a spec EV class that will begin in July. Upon launch, 11 of the most innovative Ultra4 teams will duke it out for electric supremacy. There will be three races for the 2022 year, each being a rocky ultra4 style race but lasting roughly a half hour.

Each of the 11 teams were invited to receive a complete Hypercraft EV drive system centered around an 800V Dana TM4 electric drive motor good for 335 hp/ 885 lb-ft of torque — all powered by a 40 kWh battery. Well, in this case four separate batteries that way weight distribution is up to the teams’ discretion.

Each team so far has contracted to race for 3 years under this class/ format. And not to worry, you need not be a race-winning/ invite only competitor to take place. The only catch there, though, is you would be responsible for spec’ing out your own EV and pricing for the Hypercraft batteries/ Dana motors, and AEM computer system these guys will be running has yet to be made official. Plus there is the matter of training – since making power by way of electricity is yet an unrefined art, EV training and successful component testing will be mandatory for all involved.

All in all, change is in the air, whether we’re ready for it or not. What we are most interested in is the prospect of such a race with no roaring engines and no delicious exhaust vapor. The new class/ 3 round series begins this July.
