When it comes to mudding, the deeper the pit you want to traverse, the more clearance you need. But the taller you make your machine, the more unstable it becomes unless you can lengthen and widen the base. Of course, the wider and longer you make the wheeler, the more power you require to keep all this mass moving.

Ordinarily what happens is we, as riders, settle on a reasonable compromise between all of these variables and just go out and do the best we can with what we have. Once in a while, however, we encounter a machine built by someone who clearly wasn’t satisfied with “good enough”. And when it comes to the High Lifter Mud Nationals, things like this insane contraption tend to come to work.
