Tighten your brake caliper bolts
#1
Today my kids 110 Tao quad's brake caliper fell off only hanging by the brake line. Naturally neither of the two bolts which hold it in place could be found. I didn't have a set of proper size matching bolts, but after a visit of the local hardware store, they are exactly 8MM-1.25 x 12mm. I resisted the tempation of forcing 5/16 inch bolts in there. So for the benefit of the next guys, these calipers can fall off, so go tighten your brake caliper bolts!

I drove my quad for two years, then I took off my brake caliper to fix something (I don't remember what now). About three rides later the brake caliper lost a screw and the assembly rotated up and off the rotor. I spent the remainder of the day without rear brakes.
I know I tightened those screws up after I worked on it, but I didn't use loctite 242 (or the harbor freight stuff) when I did it. I learned my lesson. I now use thread locker religiously when I work on the quad.

The same thing happened to me. I had just changed the oil in my son's 110cc and I drove it up the drive. Went to hit the brakes and nothing. The upper of the two bolts popped out and the caliper rotated off the disc. Thank God my son wasn't on it at the time. I was hard as heck to get the piston (caliper) to open again. Used a screwdriver between the pads. Don't forget to check these two bolts when tightening up everything and use blue loctite on them.
