Qingqi 250 ATV Shifter issue
#1
Hello Everyone,
I am not new to this forum I just seem to always find what I need by searching and have never had a need to post a question till now.
I have a Qingqi 250 ATV, it is the 2 cylinder model with dual carbs and such. I picked it up from someone that just rode it till it stopped and then
didnt know what to do with it to get it back running.
I have fixed the usual stuff that was causing the driveline to bind up and the clutch cable as well as the plugged up carbs but have ran into one problem that I would like to see if anyone had any ideas on before I just go opening up a can of worms..
The issue I am having is that the shifter will not return to its resting position. In other words when I upshit by lifting up on the shifter it will enguage and stay in the up position and I have to take my foot and push it back to the center postion for it to lock in. I have the same issue when downshifting, when pressing down on the shifter it will stay down and I have to lift it up to get it to enguage.
It acts like there is a spring missing or broken somewhere but not sure on this model if its in the gearbox or somewhere else? I do know that the prevoius owner did put a clutch in the quad a short time back but dont know if this problem was present prior to that or not?
Any advice on what to look for would be apperciated!!
Also, I know parts are a hit and miss on these quads but is there somewhere to get a service manual or a parts breakdown (image) for this quad? It would make me much more comfortable pulling this thing apart.
I am a master auto tech but these things in many ways are different than a car or truck :-)
Thanks again for everthing..... Does anyone know the acutal model designation for this quad?? I see where some comare to redcat and others but dont see where they are dual cylinder models they all just look to be single cylinder 250cc models??
Sincerely

Welcome to the forum (as a member) newquad4me!
Nice to know youve got a lot of info just by reading..
Id guess the spring on the shifter pawl is broken...Your lucky because its under the clutch cover. Youve got to remove the clutch to get to it. but dont need to remove the engine or split the cases.
No idea where to get a model specific manual but clutches are pretty similar so any small air cooled 4 stroke manual would help. Also wont hurt to take pics as you take it apart... they will help when you put it back together if its your first time.

Hello Mywifesquad,
Thank you for your time and assistance. I was hoping that this particular model had the spring behind the clutch cover. I have installed clutch kits and such on different quads before but never on one of these China made quads. I am thinking the guy that installed the clutch accidently did something to cause this problem.
I guess I will find out here in a few days.. I am just glad I dont have to split that case
I would think that if for some reason the spring is broken or missing I could prob subsitute a spring from a different brand (found easier) and it should work fine?
Thanks Again..

The Chinese copied the Japanese so its very similar...You should have no problems since youve been inside a clutch cover before.. Id also think you could substitute a spring with no problem..
