Default Not running smooth.

Hello everyone,

I am new to both four wheelers and the forum. I have been scanning it over for the past week and thanks for all the good info on here.

So here is my problem. I bought the kids a used Cool Sports 200st four wheeler from one of my brother's friends. It had been sitting about a year. Took it home got a new battery, changed the oil, plug, fuel lines, and fuel filter. Took the gas tank off and cleaned it out. Took the carb off and cleaned it and all the jets. I counted all the turns of the different jets and screws to mak sure that they went back to where they were set before I took it apart. It fired right up. I was pretty proud of myself I must say.

Well, We have been riding it and it felt like something was off. Revving out but lacking the power behind it. I did some checking and the clutch cable was a little too tight and it was keeping the clutch slightly engaged. After i loosened it a little everything seemed to pick up better.

Now it is not running smoothly and back firing a lot. I did some reading on here about adjusting your carb and have had no luck.

Here is what I have done so far:
1st I raised the needle up one notch (moved the snap ring down one notch) on the needle that the throttle cable controls. It ran a lot peeper at first.
I have tried to adjust the idle screw, no help.
From what I read the fuel / air mixture screw on my carb is on the float bowl. When I adjust it fuel starts dripping or pouring out of the over flow line depending on how much I back the a / f screw out.

Have I done something wrong or am I missing something.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to the forums.
I think that screw is a drain for the bowl.
Could the pipe be plugged? Sometimes there is a screen in there that gums up.
If it's a 4 stroke, maybe a valve adjustment.
I'm not at all familiar with that machine, but I don't understand how you loosened the clutch.
Hope that helps some.

I think it's a drain also. But I did read in the sticky about adjusting carbs that "The air/fuel screw is the flathead screw usually before the idle screw closest to the air filter. Some newer carbs have the a/f screw on the bottom of the float bowl. Here are some basic adjustments to get it started and to tune it once broke in." and that was the only other screw that I could find other than the idle adjustment screw.

When I say I loosened the clutch I meant clutch cable. Sorry for not wording it clearly. Even with the clutch handle fully extended the cable was still pulling the lever for the clutch down on the engine. I loosened the cable at the handle bars to take the tension off of the lever.
Sorry for the confusion.

What is a good way to check the pipe? I is the stock steel one.
