Default Used panther 70s worth the trouble?

I've been on the lookout for some brand atvs recently and ran across 2Panther 70s. Seller says he wants $100 each obo. Wiring was apparently destroyed by their puppy. I haven't taken a look at them yet. Just wondering if they might be worth the effort. Since they can't run is there a way to turn the motor over by foot or hand? I would guess wiring these guys won't be too bad. I'm pretty good at fixing things up but don't want to throw good money after bad. Anything good or bad I should look out for? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums.

Two ways to look at this. First, I'd say since you can't see them run, 100 for both. Then you have a cheap project to start with. Not sure what all you'll add in costs along the way, but sometimes just rebuilding something is worth the cost.

Second, you're probably never going to get the money spent back out of them if you sell them. But you may get a few years of kids enjoying them, and that you really can't put a price on.

Take a good look at all the welds, suspension and brakes. I've got an old cobra 90 sitting in my back yard that the engine is junk. But it has a great frame and suspension. So someday I'll get that thing rebuilt for the nieces and nephews to ride on. Good project for me, fun for them.

I figured that would be true if I got them for free. I will try to swing by and take a look this weekend.

true, check out the welds and peripherals of each machine. also, check out the oil: smell it, look at it, check it out. that'll tell you a lot. sounds like you're gonna get a 2fer deal. i concur, $100 for both because the owner can't prove the engines ain't locked up and destroyed. the wiring issues won't be bad to fix either. just time consuming. i wished them quads were closer to me, i'd buy'em. good luck

Someone beat me to them. Told the guy I was coming out today, but he wouldn't call back. He finally contacted me this evening and said someone bought them earlier today.

Ran out today to take a look at a supposed 110 Tao Tao. When I got there, it looked a lot like one of the Panthers I asked about last week. Had the same destroyed wiring. Frame looked decent, only bad weld was non-structural (loop behind the seat). Plastic was split all over but still in one piece somehow. ATV had apparently spent some time outside since it was pretty rusty. The seller was firm on $100, I offered $50 and was glad he turned me down. I didn't even both with a higher offer.

you did good there. sounds like a major basket case of a quad you just looked at. don't worry, there'll be another come along for you.
