Yeah sounds like a plan to try the original carb again. The performance carb you probably got frm Gio is a mikuni 30mm copy and has been used on these engine by alot of people. It may very well be a bad carb or something in the carb not set up proper.
I would try the one that came with the unit and see what happens.

 

So this morning i was taking the carb off to put the stock back in and I noticed something was shaking around in it so I pulled it apart again and sure enough the smaller jet was unscrewed. so put it back tightened everything and put it back on the quad and sure enough it fired right up and sounded a lot better. after driving around and setting the carb I went to go hit the starter button with no luck not even a click. I was getting really mad at this thing from one thing not working to another. I did manage to figure it out the solenoid wire was loose at the connectors so i raped it tight with electrical tape and now its all good hope it stays running for the long weekend
