I have a 90cc monsoon atv. It ran fine three days ago . I road for about 30 minutes in the rain. Now i get nothing. wont even spin over when I press the start button. I am totally confused. can anyone hepl me? already took apart switch and clean connections. they did have a little build up on them but no change.

start by turning the ignition switch on and jumping the starter solonoid by taking a screw driver and touching the to big nuts on the solonoid follow the thick gauge wire off the positive terminal of the battery if it starts up then we can look into saftey switches . Oh check the inline fuse first before doing the above mention

no thats the solenoid 2 large nuts on it??

should look like this
the cdi will have 4 or 5 or six smaller wires going into it
in the above pic bridge a screw driver across the to nuts see if the engine turns over
here is a cdi pic

heres another cdi

As I recall the monsoon 90cc is a two stroke, and has a weird (to me) looking CDI. Other quads that use these weird looking CDIs are yerf dog and sundiro. Don't be afraid to search around for threads on these two 90cc quads also since I think they might be the same. Two stroke CDIs are different from 4 stroke CDIs. You cannot adapt a four stroke CDI to work on a 2 stroke engine. The timing advance is all wrong. I learned this the hard way in an earlier thread. If you search on this you will see the whole story about how I got it all wrong. If you can't find it I will post the link (I'll have to search for it too). We all live and learn.
Luke95gxe: I agree with everything you've said so far. Jumping the solenoid is the way to go for a first diagnostic test. But in looking at some 90cc diagrams I get hints (from the way they draw the diagrams) that the solenoid on some of these quads don't have screw posts, but rather have a four pin connector that plugs into the solenoid - including the battery and starter motor wiring.
Chefph: Follow that big heavy red wire from the battery to the "thing". Is there another heavy gauge wire from the "thing" to the starter motor? If so, then that is your starter solenoid. And like Luke95gxe said, see if you can short those two heavy gauge wires together. Don't mind a few sparks - starters draw a lot of current (about 35 amps).
Note: This will in all likelyhood *unconditionally* turn the starter motor bypassing all safety interlocks. The quad may start up, so make sure the quad is in neutral, and the brakes are set before you do this. When you are troubleshooting problems you really want the quad to remain still
.
The cdi (even your weird looking one) has nothing to do with whether your quad starter motor cranks. It only has to do with whether you get spark or not. You're not there yet. Gt the starter cranking first.
Luke95gxe asked you (quite correctly) to check the fuse to see if it is blown. Have you done that?

Mr. Edwards, thank you for your pictures and yes it is the cdi that the thick positive wire leads to. Also, Yes I did check the fuse and it was fine. So, Ill go out in a few minutes and do like both of you suggest. And I will keep you posted on the results and we will go from there. Thanks Guys! Oh and as I have been researching and from what I see. It Is the same as yerf but decal w/ vin# on it sais monsoon.
