Will CDI damage engine
#1
Hello all,
New to ATVing, picked up a no name Chinese 200cc quad and getting it in shape hopefully to do some trail riding.
I was getting intermittent no spark so I ordered a new 6 pin CDI, when the CDI got here I plugged it in and it seems to work. The problem is if I crank and it doesnt start the engine seems to do a backlash..sounds terrible. A few has said that it may be a high performance CDI with advanced timing.
The problem is I ordered a cheapie CDI for 5 dollars w shipping. Could it be that the CDI I have has a different timing profile?
Biggest concern is will this CDI harm the motor? It works good except for the backlash noise..I would keep as spare if no harm to motor.
Thanks in advanced.

Brum and armagh ..thanks for the suggestion. This is only happening on the New CDI I ordered.
The Old CDI starts fine and does not make that backlash noise. Only the new one I received. I will probably order another one as they are cheap.
Thanks for the reponse.
