As a thought. Look for some type of lever connecting to your gearbox, this is how my Baja 250 goes from forward to neutral to reverse.

if its a manual with foot shift it should be shifted all the way down or all the way up cant remember the shift pattern. it will be the same way you shift to get to neutral. Sometimes its hard to get into without rocking the machine

Wow, that sound like a dangerous design if correct. I'm assuming that can only get put in that gear (reverse) with the rear brake fully engaged.

No diffrent than a car u cannot get it in reverse while moving forward. Same design they have always used. I always found it a pain to get into reverse. I think it was always a half click instead of a full click that would always leave u in neutral

Sure, that's assuming it has a clutch lever to release the gears. A lot of chinese quads these size are auto or semi auto without a clutch. Levers on the bars can be deceiving as they can be for brakes only.
