Baja 250 ATV - No Spark
Hello,
I just purchase a Baja BA250 not running and I would appreciate any help you can offer. The previous owner said the ATV had weak spark and intermittently no spark. Right now I get no spark at all.
For troubleshooting I removed pin 5 (kill switch wire) from the CDI box connector. Still no spark. Next I disconnect both connectors (2 Connector, 6 pin AC CDI box) on the CDI box and measured on the connector Pin 1 (ignition Pulse) to ground and cranked the engine and I received .1 VAC. Next I Measured from pin 6 to ground and cranked the engine I measured 55VAC. Based on that information I thought the stator and pick up sensor were OK I re-connected the CDI box and measured the voltage to the coil and received 0 volts. I then added a additional ground wire from the frame to pin 3 of the CDI Box still no voltage to the coil. I thought the CDI box was bad so I replaced it and the ignition coil but had the same problem. One thing I did notice was the new CDI box was smaller (about 1/2″ shorter and 1/2″ narrower) The CDI box is a 6 pin rounded type connector.
Now I'm questioning if the stator and pickup coil are good. Can someone tell me what the voltage should be coming from the stator into the CDI box when just cranking the engine and also what is the minimum voltage from the pickup coil to the CDI box? Now I'm thinking the .1VAC from the pickup coil is not enough voltage to activate the CDI and let the voltage pass to the ignition coil.
How big of a job is it to replace the stator and pickup coil ?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

BA250 No Spark
No responses but I thought I would ask another question.
Still fighting a no spark problem I replaced the CDI box with a GY6 CDI box and still had no spark. I was wondering if all of the 6 pin, 2 connector AC CDI boxes are the same between the gy6 engine and the 250cc horizontal engine the BA250 has.

BA250 No Spark
It's a 2007 The Prefix on the VIN is LRY and the last 4 of the VIN 3397.
IT looks like it was manufactured by a company called Gaungyu. Below is a link to a parts manual for it with pictures. You may have to paste the information into you browzer

Another name for this quad: Guangyu BA 250
CDI you need is BA250-159
Also, totally different than my Baja Wilderness
There has to be a way to verify your original one is bad or at least tell if it's an AC or DC Cdi. Maybe check the output of your stator, I believe the coil pickup is also located on the stator. Pull the cover off.
