The engine looks like the pushrod CG series of motors. I believe it will be called a CG250. It has a manual clutch? 4 forward gears and reverse, or 5 forward gears?
I have a CG200, which is a 200CC version of that motor, it is a honda motorcycle bike engine design. I use Castrol 4-Stroke oil made for motorcycles (Called Castrol 4-Stroke 10W40). This motor has a wet clutch and needs oil meant for this, most motorcycles have wet clutches.
The rear shock is adjusted by tightening or loosening the 2 nuts on the top of the spring (1 is to lock the other nut from loosening off by itself). Apparently the shocks are adjustable too by the air fitting, I have these on mine, I wanted to check the air pressure in them, and got a spray of oil all over my pressure gauge, so I dont know how to adjust the shock dampening.

befarrer,
Yes, it is a manual. 1 reverse and 4 gears. Do you know of any oem performace parts that will fit it? (headers) Can i take parts of of a honda motor to replace parts?
By the way thanks for the info its a good start. I dont like taking my bike to the shop. These qauds are easy to work on as along as you take your time.

I dont know of any performance parts, the place where I got my quad listed a high performance exhaust, I got it, but I dont know if it made a difference, it looks better though, and it is quieter. What you could do is look into getting a different muffler, measure up your pipe size going into the muffler and other stuff, and see if you can get a supertrapp, or some other universal muffler that will fit over the pipe, and mount to the frame.
Honda made this motor in 125CC and 110CC versions, but designed it to go up to 250CC, so I dont know which honda parts, if any will work on the motor, I am pretty sure transmission parts will work though.
If you want better performance, I would look at getting a good carb like a Mikuni if you dont have one (mine had a no-name china brand), and a good air filter.
