3) General Discussions..No problems but would like to discuss your Chinese quad experiences post in here.. You can also post in here why you hate your Chinese quad..
Bought this quad in the UK with an open mind, hoping to renovate it. Going off the seat, I think maybe it's possibly a Bashan of some kind? Is that a Chinese make? Could easily be wrong.
Chap who was selling it seemed to think it was 200cc however, looking at the numbers on the engine I'm not so sure.
Stamped on the engine low down:
Code:
CR042
ZS156FMI-B
*5C500870*
- which seems to suggest it is a Zongshen ZS156FMI-B 125cc engine? On the size of the magneto cover there is the logo for 'Lexmoto'. They don't seem to make quads though, only bikes.
Comments by the seller led me to believe this might not be the original engine. Not sure. He told a tale of changing the engine for a 200cc unit, whether this is the original engine he's put back in or what, don't know.
It has a shaft drive to the rear (differential?) rather than a chain.
Originally I was going to do this one up for myself & the mrs, and let my lad have a smaller quad I bought at the same time, a Kazuma Meerkat. Turns out now I've finished renovating the Meerkat, it's too small for him really, so I'm planning to sell it & do this one up for him instead. Then get something different for mum & dad.
Could anyone give any help with any info on this machine to get me started renovating? Or even suggest where to look on the machine for any identifying info, have looked for ages but nothing I can see easily.
If it helps identify the machine, I purchased the new seat off Ebay, the seller's description was "Fits Bashan BS200S-7 and BS250S-11B 200cc 250cc Quad Bikes". The old extremely tattered seat that came with the quad, was dimensionally & visually identical. I guess this isn't, however, conclusive evidence that the actual machine itself is or isn't a Bashan of some sort..
I have some more yellow trim panels off the back - sorry have to wait till tomorrow to photograph them.

Reason: It's looking more and more Bashan.
Sorry for the double-post, not sure how to edit extra pics into the first post. I wanted to show the rear differential more clearly, hoping it might be a bit unique in design & help with identifying the quad.
If the engine has ZS156FMI-B stamped on it, don't see how it could be anything else. That diff looks rather like a little Yamaha, they were pretty fragile on 80cc Yams so may not be a good omen if it is a Chinese copy of it. Best way is to try and get it going, and use it, worry about what make it is if/when you need parts for the chassis. Engine spares should be 125 Zongshen.
Thanks Merryman. Hey I just noticed you're only just up the road from me.
I found a page that lists a diff casing that looks identical, made / distributed by a Chinese(?) outfit "Zhuiye", and listed as for "For 100CC 200CC Bashan ATV"
