Default Leak at Water Pump?

Hi

I was riding my raptor today and noticed that water was leaking from a hole on the bottom of my water pump. The hole looks factory but what is it for? and why would water be leaking from it? Also I did'nt hear the fan kick on today.

Thanks

Just an assumption but I would say the water pump is going bad. Thats normaly what that means.

You got me...???? Thats one of the few things I have never had to fix. LOL

It might be some kind of seal in there, but I would bet not. It should be hard to tell, its only a couple of allen screws holding it on.

It may be a weep hole like on most auto water pumps. Oddly enough, mine leaked from day one off the show room floor. It was fixed under warranty so I'm not sure of the price or what they actually did. I'll bet it's just an internal seal or o-ring within the pump and could be replaced easily yourself. Just a guess !?

FISHER1648 is right. Just a seal. Mine did that too and warranty covered it.

Even if it is the water pump, that is not an expensive part to replace.

The entire housing with impeller and o-rings is like $32.00.

Mine has weeped since day one. I would just watch the level on the over flow tank to see how much is actually being lost. I think I would do something about if it is like pouring out though and like slappie has pointed out the parts are not that much.

Mine did the same thing after the warranty was up and I just watched it and it hasnt done it again for a year now. I purchased a new one and thru it in the trailer just to have when I am out riding and it fails. I got mine from the dealer for under 40.00 so it surprised me it was that cheap!! I wish the starter clutch bearing was that cheap!!
