Raptor hard to start
#1
Hi
What would cause a Raptor to be hard to start? I have to crank it for upto 3 minutes to get it started when its cold. Its even hard to start when it hot. I have to hold the throttle 1/4th down. It never starts when the choke is used.
Thanks

How many hours do you have on it, roughly? A badly worn cam chain will cause hard starting, but it will turn over VERY slow if it even turns over. Makes it seem like you have too much compression or something.

sounds way lean for some reason. look for a vacuum leak. have you ever adjusted yer valves? that seems to be the penicillin of the raptor...low tire = adjust the valves. boots on the carbs and intake? crud in the fuel flow between the tank and the carbs? start at the spark plug. put a new one in. see how it starts. no change? then start at the gas cap and follow the trail down. simple. good luck! Hi
Thanks for all these replies! The Raptor idles well after it warms up. The valves have been adjusted recently. Where is the air screw so I can try to richen it up? Its a real pain trying to start this thing, it will just about kill a battery.
Thanks
