I don't have a quad. I have lots of money though So, help me out. I like the Warrior, what I've read at least. However, I’ve looked at Honda’s 400 EX and like what I see. The only thing negative, I’ve notice, is the fact that the 400 EX doesn’t have reverse. How big of an issue is this? I am hesitant to ask this in Yamaha’s forum, for I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, but has anyone ridden the 400 EX? Just would like to know someone’s opinion (who as been on both) of the two. I'll be doing mostly trail riding and have heard the Warrior is great. Just concerned with the outdated setup. Thanks.

I own a 99 warrior and have had a chance to ride the 400ex personally i prefer the warrior.
the 400ex is a nice machine but it still has a few problems ( swingarm , h-bars , poorly tuned motor ) they havent changed the warrior much in the 14yrs of production. If u want a faster machine i guess the 400ex, but u wount need the extra it has to give if this is your first quad

If your not in a rush wait and see what yamaha is working on for next year the pictures so far look real sweet. for the new sport that they are working on

I have a Y2K warrior and I love it. It is a great trail machine. I ride with three other guys and they all have the 400ex. Yes the 400ex is a great machine, but if you cannot control the power of it you will wreck it everytime you go out just like my buddy does. In other words, the warrior would be a much better first quad.

The warrior does just fine is the woods and hill climbing. There is not a hill anywhere I been that the 400ex could climb that the warrior could not. If I were you I would buy a warrior, put a pipe on it, some desent rear tires and count the extra money you saved from buying a stock 400ex.

Thanks you all, for replying to this. I have in fact owned a quad before (a Yamaha at that). It's been a while and I need to sharpen my skills again, but am sure I'll fit on whatever I decide to bye like a glove. It's like riding a bicycle....right?? Like I said, the money is burning a hole in my pocket. I like what I've seen with Yamaha's new quad, but am afraid I just can't wait that long. I'm the kid and the quad is the candy I posted similar messages in both Yamaha and Honda's forums. Biased or not, I like what I've seen in favor of the 400 EX. I have a feeling, however, it won't be long before a Yamaha is between my legs. Once I sell the Honda of course. Thanks again.

I have a '99 warrior and love it. But, if I have LOADS of money like you, I would wait for the new yamaha sport quad coming out this summer. Should cost around 7g's from what I hear.
