Default Help! Need info on 96 Polaris 400?

I am loking at buying a 96 400(2 stroke) 4x4. I think its a sportsman. I can get a good price on it but I don't know much about older Polaris quads. It seems to run ok, but are there any things that I should look out for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

First off do you ike to maintane a quad?THis is a high maintanence machine. What to look for is 1. check the engine compression(should be at least 115 psi)2.check the chains and sprockets(all 3 sets) 3.check tierod ends for play 4. check steering post bottom bushing. 5. ask when the last time the counter balance oil was changed(he dont know what you are talking about leave it alone) other than what I ha ve mentioned they are great machines I have one and it isone of the meanest 4x4s around. But takes a lot of TLC

Well it looks ok but whats with the counterbalance oil? I've never heard of it before.
Also I know he hasn't changed the hub fluid. Is this really bad?
