Default Shim under bucket, yeah or nah?

I know Web reccomends the shim/under conversion when running grind # 109(race w/ .425 lift). I saw where someone mentioned that they were running RWR race cams(.433 or something like that) and that they were NOT running shim/unders. Seems to me that the shim/under would be required more so with higher lifts(which the RWR is)? Can someone shed a little light? I'm planning to add the WEB # 109's on my DS as soon as i can afford springs(and shim/under conversion, if needed), but don't wanna spend the xtra for the conversion if its not needed...

I orderd teh 433 & 406 cams from RW and they promise it wont requirs the conversion. Yet when you call WC they say ya.. My take on it is this.. Is 100$ more. If you want 100% saftey then do it.. But many people run without..

all it does is offer the security of knowing that in the unlikely event you drop a valve into the cylinder from spring breakage or whatever, the shim cannot come loose inside the head to bounce around and do even more damage up top.

its very unlikely circumstances will ever show the value of the shim-under, but alot of guys, myself included, are like screw it - I'm dropping a grand anyway, might as well get the added security for another hundred bucks. I've only heard of one instance where damage up top occured from a shim escaping after a valve spring broke - Markynark - but for some one is enough.

AZ,

How long have you run aftermarket cams with the stk shim setup? I would imagine that you have really Wrung em out! What springs would you reccomend with the WEB 109's?
