need advice....my manual is stupid

ok im confused about this oil change in my warrior. i got new oil and an oil filter but the manual says that a periodic oil change is 2.4L, an oil change with oil filter replacement is 2.5L, and then they say the total amount is 3.2L and im like wtf?! so should i put 2.4L of oil in my engine (with some in the filter to make it 2.5) or should i put 3.2L of this stuff in my engine?? im really confused.....please help

The total amount is how much it holds if you took the engine apart and removed every bit of oil and then filled it back up, when you change the oil you can't get it all out.Go with the 2.4 and add more til full on the stick.

hey six, im kinda confused with a similar issue on the rappy. tthanks to you, when i did i post you told me that you go by what it says for change and filter...not the total unless you open the cases. So ok fine. BTW, are you 100% sure that that is what the total really stands for, because many people have a misunderstanding and are putting half a quart over.
Anyway, i changed my oil and put 1 1/4, revved it 5 times, and shut it off. Then i put the rest of the second quart in. i didnt bother checkin the dipstick because i put the correct amount in so why shouldnt it be right. The next morning i checked it while it was sitting over night and it was around half...without running it. I then warmed it up and rode it, then let it sit for 5-10 min and it was just barely over the bottom of the ok zone line. whats this about?
Also,
ive had my raptor for about 2 1/2 months and i just began to notice a smell. Couldn't really tell you if its a burning smell but the smell isnt coming out of the exhaust. To be honest, its the same smell my warrior had for a month when i bought it used. I cant figure it out. Is it the smell of the pistons burning or something? I HOPE not?!?! I know i cant really describe it too well but i thought maybe id b lucky and youd know what im experiencing. It didnt have this smell when i bought it. Any ideas? thanks/warrior86

thats normal warrior 86. the first time you ride your qaud, the piston(s), engine, and the gears have to get used to running for the first time. My theory is that the smell is comming from the brand new piston working on the oil threrfore creating that smell for a while. The same thing happened to mine when the guy first show me how to ride it. But after the breaking point the smell should start to subside and drive clean. Hope you enjoy ur new quad. -Later

no, i know what the break in smell smells like. I dont think its that. I had that smell the first day i rode it but that smell is gone. Everything burnt out. This is a different smell
i really cant explain it.
BTW, is it better to have oil on the lower side in the ok zone or the higher part. Someone told me less oil put less strain on teh engine and you get more power. I only have two quarts of oil in it plus whatever was in the filter. Is it possible that my engine is in the process of seizing and that is the smell of teh rings gettin messed up? thanks.
like i was saying about teh oil level. Should i base how much oil i have in the engine by how much is actually in it or how much it says on the dipstick? im confused/ thanks

Go by the dip stick. As far as why it read lower after riding I can only guess, because there are two parts to the system (tank and crankcase) sometimes a little more in one than the other. The smell? I don't know, something in the gas, different brand, but I dought it's anything to do with your piston. A leaky head gasket letting coolant get burned will smell sweet.
