can anyone give me the lowdown? is there an aftermarket seat?

There is absolutely no way that an ATC seat will fit on the TRX250r, I've tried. You have only two options- the first and best option is to suck it up and pay the big duckies for a real R seat. I consider myself pretty lucky to have gotten one on ebay for $175 with a one industries cover on it but I still had to make a seat latch for it. If you buy them from say, Honda of Troy or any other big Honda supplyer, you can expect to pay about $300 and you still won't get the latch. The second option is a 400ex seat. If you look at the pics of my R you'll see that it is wearing one. It only cost me I think around $50 and I had to modify it with a dremel. If you are good at stuff like that, then I say go for it. I don't know how your job would be, but mine was SOLID. There was no way that seat was coming off. The down side was that I could never get a matching seat cover and sticker kit, and those 400 seats are so darn stiff. However, if I was racing it MX alot, I would deffinately have kept the 400 seat because it droped that seat height about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. May sound silly, but I swear, the first thing I noticed when I put the 250r seat on was that it didn't handle as well because I was sitting higher in the saddle. With 18" turf tamers and the 400 seat, it had a seat height of 29" ! Good luck!
