Default 2002 SP700 Electrical Fire

I have been in these forums before and if anyone remembers, my 2002 SP700 has had countless problems. I am currently in litigation with Polaris because of all the problems. I thought you all might like to hear about the latest. I was slowly moving in low gear with my 4 year old son sitting on it with me, in front of me. ( He loves taking rides around the yard.) Well, he says, "OOOO Dad, look at all the smoke." I look down and see smoke pouring out from where my handle bars go into the speedometer housing. After quickly getting him off the ATV, I should have kept it running so it would burn to hell, but I quickly turned off the motor and not sure if it helped or not but it quit smoking. I took it to my garage and took it apart to see what damage was done. All the electrical wires were melted and burnt through. The machine runs still, but obviously no electrical works. Display inop, 4 wheel drive inop, speedometer inop, lights inop, you all get the picture. Anyways, I am taking it back to the dealer tomorrow and will let you all know what happened. I only have 215 miles on this thing. Hope you all have better luck with yours!!!

YIKES!!!!! Sorry to hear about the issues with the bike. Did you happen to find the source of the fire? I can't help but be interested since I also own an '02 SP 700. I hope your dealer steps up and replaces your machine or at least fixes it no charge.

I have heard of some of the earlier ones coming out with the wrong circuit breakers installed in them. Could be the same??

Polaris has had some trouble with the ground wire from the engine to the frame separating in the connector causing some electrical melt downs. My brother inlaw
had his wires from the stator to the ignition burn up when his failed. Polaris did say this is the cause but didn't offer to replace the wiring because he admitted he laid the machine over while riding a real rough trail.
