Any modded DS650's out there? Did you used to have a modded 2-stroke 250 and bought a DS650?

Default Any modded DS650's out there? Did you used to have a modded 2-stroke 250 and bought a DS650?

Looking to hear from DS650 owners that have put some money into their motors. What were the results? Do these motors respond to mods as well as a Raptor? I'm thinking about getting an 04' DS650, but want to make sure I can make it faster than what I already have. I recently read that you can get up to 85hp without shelling out a bunch of dough. Is this true? Are you guys beating modded 2-stroke 250's? Does the 500 pound weight of the bike bother you? Have any of you got rid of your modded 250 and went for the DS? Are you happy with your decision?
Thanks in advance for all your replies!

the ds responds well to gearing changes and it seems to out run 250 two strokes the 330 hondas do give it more than it wants.

I wouldn't expect 85HP. Not even with a lot of $$$.

If you are looking for a straight drag bike I wouldn't suggest the DS.

It does respond to mods well but, it isn't a 2-stroke.

Look at a DS if you want a fast comfortable solid bike. Living in Fontana I'm sure you ride Glamis all the time. If you want to be able to ride all day and not be hurting at the end of the day the DS is great. Just don't expect to beat the heavily modded Shee's.

I used to own a 250r and a Banshee before I got my DS. I have NOT regreted it since!

The DS gives you a BIG, SAFE,EASY ride and will give you GREAT duning power. But you will spend $$$$ if you want to run with 70+ hp 2-strokes.

I was tired of working on my 250r, SO I sold it and bought a Banshee, I loved it for awhile, but the suspension, and "power band" was WEARING MY OUT!! The DS came to my rescue, and I have been Sassified ever since.

Thanks guys....
I was in Pismo for Memorial Day weekend. There was a Black DS650 looked like it was stock except for a pipe. But he lined up with 5 modded Raptors and 2 piped Banshees and smoked them all. They lined up a second time and same result. This guy was taking them by 4 bike lengths within 150 yards. I didn't get a chance to ask this guy what mods he had, but this is what sparked my interest in the DS. Anyone out there with similar results please let me know what mods you needed to get this kind of power.
Thanks....

Pismo has two drag areas. One is a real short hill - Lame in my opinion - I think it is probably less than 50 yards.
The second is a long relatively flat drag.

Flat drags are tricky - I don't know much about them (I'm used to hills). DSMike has a stock bore with an override tranny that kicks some butt (I think this is right?) Point is that you may not need to spend a lot to get a fast quad for racing the flats. It may be more about gearing, etc.
