carb boot blew off again....more suggestions???
#1
i recently put a yoshi pipe and brought it to my local guy to have jetted. the plug is slighly rich but other than that it runs fine (no backfire). in the past two weeks of riding the carb boot has blown off 5 times. this is annoying and could possibly be dangerous if im about to attempt a jump. i heard uping the idle is helpful. can anyone tell me where the idle adjustment screw is? can i access it from outside the raptor or do i have to take the carbs out(i hope not) should i use different clamps? it seems like the boots are at a different angle than the carb. i pull the carb to the boot to get it back on but i dont wanna rip it off. should i file down the spacers? thanks for any help. warrior86

Mine used to do that quite frequently. It turned out it was my intake valves, they were wayyy to tight. Check them and adjust them and it should fix the problem, plus at the same time I bought UPP intake manifolds so this could be the fix, but the valves needed adjusted anyway.

yeah but the thing is, i checked my valves just a little while ago. it was my first time and i just checked the intake and they seemed fine. i was able to get the feeler gauge in there fine. and the thing is, it began happening after i got my pipe on which was about a week to two weeks before it first happened. my riding style is the same. i really doubt its the valves. the bike is about four months old. i dont know if that matters or not but im pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that i have a pipe since i rode it just as crazy for the first 3 1/2 months without a problem. does anyone know how to adjust the idle. If its fairly easy and i dont have to go into the carb, id rather try that first then take off fenders, tank, etc. thanks

i had the same problem until i bought the upp carb boots and since i put them on i have not had the problem again.it is probably a good idea to up your idle speed also depending on where it is at now because doing that seemed to make my raptor start easier.the upp boots are very well worth the money and will get rid of your problem.

ok sounds good. ill adjust the speed. where can i get those aftermarket boots? online? from manufacturer? btw, the thing that pi$$es me off teh most is that when the carb boots popped off, there was of course dust dirt that was on the carb up to the line where the hose (boot) began and i think when i put them on i mighta gotten the boot around the carb deeper so that some of the dusty dirt might either be in between the clamped area or i guess past it and in my engine. or am i wrong? i doubt its good for the dirt to get in the engine, i mean isnt that the purpose of the air cleaner? or is that to keep the carb jets clean? thanks for the help as always.

I had the same problem after putting a K&N filter on, upped the idle alittle tightened the boots down and no problems since. The UPP intake manifolds are the way to go, plus don't they come in different colors?

WARRIOR86-you can get the upp carb boots from WWW.UPPRACING.COM .the upp boots are built of a much more rigid material than the stock boots and they hold the carbs in place far better than the stock set up .i dont want to keep repeating myself but i feel that the upgrade to these boots is a very good idea on a carb set up that is mounted like the raptors are and what i am saying is that the carbs on the raptor seem to have a lot more movement to them than most and the boots help stop most of that.it is also my opinion that a boot that does not flex will give a more consistent flow than one that does flex but that is just a theory that i have.

duneittilludie is absolutely right! My UPP boots are awesome, sometimes I can even hear it try to pop and try to blow the boots off, but they stand strong! I reccomend them to everyone. GREAT PRODUCT!
