Well I don't think enough dirt intered the intake system to cause any problems. Just keep those clamps tight!

but technically, when dirt goes into the cylinder, itll scrape away at the cylinder wall correct? or is it not that important as long as its not gritty dirt?

Yes you are correct, but I think you had very small amounts intered your intake system. UNLESS you were riding for hours through mud and dusty roads and didn't notice it.

Default rappy idle adjustment and carb boot blow off

no barely any got in. i didnt ride it like that at all cause it really wouldnt run. its more that when it happened, the residue up to the line where the hose clamps around the carb mighta slid under the hose and possibly in further when i pushed it back on. i know atleast 3 of the 4 times i used my shirt to wipe it away but im not sure about the other time so i was just wonderin. thanks for the reply.!

Default rappy idle adjustment and carb boot blow off

well i took my raptor to the track and the boots havent popped off since i upped the idle and tightened the clamps better. At teh track today after landing a jump they blew. it sucked bigtime. Again, it was the right one that popped off, not the left. But i think the left one popped off too. The idle screw was turned. where is the tool that will tell me RPM's and how much is it. cause i upped it to where its noticably faster. for all i know it can be way too much or still too little. now, for other adjustments....i am hearing about pilot jets, idle circuits, air/fuel screws. Are any of these the same thing and which ones should i actually change. If i do this it should fix my problem, right? do i have to go into the carbs for all of these or are any of these adjustments external? i really need to get this problem fixed cause im screwing up my engine each time these boots pop off and dust flies into my rappy from passing bikes. thanks for any help, warrior86.

btw, is there any way to tell if i am lean on idle circuit, pilot, etc. like a plug electrode reading or something?

Default carb boot blew off again....more suggestions???

when i searched through other posts i heard that when you let off the throttle the engine goes way lean and causes the backfire and the carbs pop off. anyone else hear about this. what do i have to do to prevent it from going lean when letting off the throttle?

A/F screw, idle mixture screw, air screw - all the same. It's a small screw on the bottom of each carb that's recessed in the bowl housing in front of the overflow tubes. There are speciality screwdrivers available (Motion Pro) that make it easier to adjust when the quad is running but I made a little stubby screwdriver that worked OK as long as the engine wasn't too hot. According to the GYT-R jet kit, the larger carb should be set to 3 turns out and the fine tuning done on the smaller carb until idle is smooth. You can check your idle mixture by blipping the throttle, if the revs return right back to idle, you are good. If it revs down slowly to idle, you are lean. If it revs below idle and then returns to idle, you are rich. Sorry I can't remember which is left/right, I guess I've got stress-induced amnesia from those $%^& stock carbs:-)

In my opinion, you need to invest in some UPP carb boots ASAP before you really do suck in enough dirt to hurt your engine.

This post will fix your machine. Your idle circuit is lean....here is how you will fix it.
1-Try turning your air / fuel screws under the carbs (cylinder head side) out about 1-1.5 turns counterclockwise from it's present position. This effectively richens up the idle circuit. Still have the problem? See the next step.
2-Get some bigger pilot jets....I recommend getting 27.5's....this fixed mine from the same problems you have now. You can fine tune the idle circuit and this is recommended as well. Search under my user name for the complete process. After fine tuning....make sure and set your idle up and you are set.
