Stopped by a Honda atv dealership and the 2004 utilities are available. The problem, I couldn't get a close look through the store window because it was closed. Has anyone bought or ridden a 400 Rancher? If so, what do you think about it? Is it quick at all?

ATV Action seemed to give it a mediocre rating.

Mike-What do you think of the weight of the vehicle?? I think it is an the heavy side for a mid size utility. I was expecting something that had been put on a real diet. How does it handle compared to the 350???

MontanaMike, Congratulations on your new purchase. How does the power of the 400 compare to the 350? I'm also curious how the Rancher 400 compares to the Foreman 450. I know there are a bunch of obvious differences. I'm wondering if the 400 has more top end than the low geared 450?

When you say that the 400 is louder- Is it a good sounding loud or bad sounding loud?

Thanks for your responses.

How is it in the ESP mode compared to the Rancher 350? Does it have a super low 1st gear for utility work? Will it creep at 2-3mph without slipping the clutch?

MontanMike, rode a Rancher AT yesterday. We have a 02 Rancher 4X4 ES now. Really liked the new one. We also have a 01 Rubicon and love the trans. Honda did a great job, I was impressed. It is a 350 Rancher with more power and torque, and a great trans. It's got close to the same ratio's for all five gears, in the auto mode it starts in first and is very throttle responsive. Bigger gas tank but probably a little thirstier.

I hate to make the resale value go down on our Rancher, but if I rode our Rancher all the time I would have traded it in today, but it is for the daughters to ride and we very seldom ride it.

I also like the way it sounds, when it first starts you know it has more power than the 350, and it does.

I have ridden a 01 450 ES and for trail riding I would take the Rancher. If I was going to work it I would take a Rubicon. I know the 450 S and ES are great ATV's, but the 450 is more "truck like" than I care for, and I like the trans in both the Rubicon and thr Rancher AT.

Enjoy your new ride.

MontanaMike, we were up to Henry's Lake over the 4th, anywhere around you? We have ridden in a little place in Montana called Pony. Have you heard of that? We will be back up over Labor Day. Glad you like your 400 AT, I would like to have one too, but would never ride it, just the kids would so I will keep the 02 Rancher. (wish it was a 400 AT though)
