Default Point me in some direction. (Advice needed)

I hope the more experienced people read this side of the forums.

I am not exactly new to ATV’s but I am not well into experience.
I have 2 Honda Fourtrax 300’s a 94 & 97. I use them for fun, & farm work.
I want to get something that will give me more ‘speed’ excitement. Something that I can use just as a toy, I don’t think I’ll be getting into any racing, Just riding for pleasure.
I’m in the foot hills of central North Carolina. The trails around here often have me crossing shallow creeks, & sometimes riding the stream. It gets pretty muddy out here.
I’m looking for something that can handle that but at the same time I can take off through the field with some decent top end. I’d also like to be able to take jumps with it.
I’ve been reading some for reasons of creeks & trees being in the path I’ve been thinking the Raptor 660 would be a good quad for clearance issues. Will it make it up a muddy bank though? The only other money I’d want to put into it would be to make it wider. As it sits it looks like it would want to tip over easy. 4 wheel drive is probably best for this woodland area, but I really want RWD just because this one will be for fun, & I think I’ll have more fun trying to get around here on a RWD machine.

I don’t mind buying used or new, I’m not scared to work on one.
My price range for the machine it’s self is up to $6,000. (I wouldn’t mind cutting that down)
Please if you have any suggestions, comments, or ideas let me know, why I should stay away from a Raptor 660 R, or if there is just something better, or if it sounds like a good idea.

Thx
~Will

i'll probally get flamed for this but i woudlnt' get a raptor, i went to the local dearl acouble days ago and there was over 7 used raptors there with tore up everyone besides one was a 2003 so... yeah ....i ride the same conditions as u do and i ride a 250X and love it but yet i get stuck in mud alot i ride wiht raptors and 400Ex the 400ex never get stuck inless there going to fast and miss the trail O_o i'd say a 400Ex or z/kfx the z/kfx are a lot faster stock vs stock then 400Ex so all you'd have to do is widen it and make some shocks

Hope that helps

yamwarrior101: The jumps arn't anything to grand, but I have alot of rolling hills out here.

250XRider50, The more I read the more bad news I find on the raptor.
The 400ex does seem like it would fit the needs, but it dosn't have reverse? (Thats another reason i was looking at the Raptor)
I might be able to get through my woods withouth reverse but I've never done it.
I wish there was a place I could go to try these machines out. I'm going to have to keep reading.
I do like the idea of a Honda, it may just be my 2, but they've had very little problems other than me doing something stupid on them.

While I have a thred, going, what are some good sites for aftermarket products & just good reading, on these types?

thx

What about a Suzuki Z400? Or maybe a Wolverine with the 424 Select so you can put it in 2WD? You will still have 4WD for the mud.
