What I would do is drain your carb bowl check the floats they might be stuck Just a thought I know they act like that if they are the least bit flooded.
I am no mechanic but these things come to mind if it was me in your postion.Hope this helps.I love my Scrambler 500

Have a good one

I had my machine upside down once and oil had leaked into the air box causing it to do the same thing. Clean your filter and drain any oil in there also. Hopes this helps.

two QUICK checks you can make... pull the air filter off.. see if it will rev out.... another thing to try is start it up, turn the choke on and see if it will rev out... that can help you to see if its running to rich or too lean.
If you have the factory filter.. TRASH it for a K&N... Flipping it upside down will cause crankcase oil to get into the airbox... if you get oil in the filter (no matter WHICH brand) it Won't get enough air to rev out...

You might check your Electronic throttle control and see if it is malfunctioning.Too much slack in the throttle cable can cause it to give you fits. Could be your reverse limiter also. If you had a speedometer installed it is part of it. If not its under the front coweling.

My 99 500 mag did that all it was. Is junk and stuff in the carb i put some Sea Foam in the tank and it took care of the problem Try drainimg the carb. Also see the clear hose coming off the carb that is not connected to anything keep it running and blow into that hose it helps disloge dirt in the carb. Also if it is under warrenty Have the dealer clean the Carb for you.

I have had a similar problem with my 97 Scrambler 500. It would go for a little while and then it would seem as though it had a problem getting fuel. I kept thinking it was trash in the carb. When I would open the choke up it would run better. I put it in the shop last week and was told that the reverse limiter had gone bad and was causing my problem. Seems odd because it was doing this all of the time not just in reverse. I go to pick it up tomorrow and hope that that takes care of the problem.
