can anyone tell me who makes a good after market shocks for my 00 450s. i just got the bike and the bike rides really rough. i have 27" tri-claws on it for mudding and i want a really heavy duty shock that can be adjusted for different riding conditions.

Greetings,
Just after the 450 was introduced, there was a lot of discussion about how stiff the ride was. Soon after, everyone agreed that the ride got softer after a break-in period. So you might want to wait a bit and see if things change for the better once you put some miles on.

Works and Hi-Lifter both sell a shock for this machine but they are expensive. I believe that a pair is over 450 dollars.
I wonder if the Rancher shocks would fit. I have noticed that they are softer, when comparing the two machines side by side.
Good luck,

I have a set of Works Performance shocks on my 450ES. They are good shocks, adjustable and can be rebuilt. They seem to work good for my type of riding, but I use my ATV for mostly utility type riding conditions. I did build a cabin in which I had to haul all supplies in with my bike and these shocks performed well under very heavy loads. The price for a complete set was about $650. You have to decide if its worth it for your application. The stock shocks do break in after a while.

Go with Works Performance, they are slightly more expensive than the Progressives that Highlifter sells but they are worth it. Your Foreman will ride like a Polaris with Works shocks. Just to clarify...I meant that in a good way.

PAPICO, YAMAHONDA -
Did you put the Works all the way around or just on the front end? Seems the rear suspension would be less critical to a good ride and handling than the front. Had heard that the Works were slightly longer than the stocks; were they? - would be nice to get a slight lift without installing a lift kit. Bottom line: Is the difference in ride/handling/ground clearance worth the cost of the shocks? Would you buy again? Thanks.
