Loose Seat on Prairie 650 Anyone?
#1
I tried doing a search and didn't see any posts related to my problem...
I just bought a new 2003 Prairie 650 2 days ago. During my break-in rides the seat keeps coming unlatched. I push the front tab in the slot and push down on the back and checked to make sure the rear latches are engaging. Everything looks right but as soon as I sit on it and start riding the rear latches let go and the seat slops around. Just curious if any other prairie owners had experienced a similar problem? I will call the dealer but wanted to ask here first.
Also, is there anything a new Prairie owner should watch for? I remember reading a year or so ago about Prairie's with choke cables that were not completely disengaging. Is this easy to spot or hopefully the problem was fixed on the 2003 models? I also have read about the gas boiling and don't know if they fixed that either (I have been atvconnection member for years but had to change my username because my old email account is no longer active). Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the (first time P650 owner) club! I have 2.5 hours on mine. I too had the same problem. There is another plastic tongue in the center of the seat that slides into a slot. I too over looked it. Kind of tricky to get it and the front tab in place at the same time but it gets easier the more you do it. You will know if it is not right.
The only gas boiling I ever heard of was on the Yamaha Grizzly.
I believe the Choke problem was resolved the second year.
Do not store the machine with the gas valve open. The tank is pressurized and it can fill your crank case with gas and lock it up. I always crack the gas cap and let it puff and then seal it back before walking away.
Last. I had a 2000 Yamaha Kodiak that steered like it had power steering. The 650 was killing me. Learning from the site link below I aligned my front end toe in @ ZERO. Man what a difference. Much better. I put a set of HoleShot ATR's on tomorrow and am going on a ride Friday. I will be reporting on it in the thread below. Read it http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...did/353598.cfm .
