new Prairie 700 not running right
#1
Just traded my V-Force in on friday and got a Prairie 700, I rode friday and sunday with no problems. I went out today and was running along at 25 mph and pushed the throttle and it felt like it wanted to fall on its face. So I ran it up to 30 and tried it again, same result. Another time I was just idleing along and it did it again with out trying to accelarate. Anybody have any problems similar to this?

I have had my Prairie 700 for about 2 weeks, this weekend was my first trip to the mountains with it. I also have the same problem with my 700. At first I thought that the premium fuel was causing a slower burn in the carb. I ran the tank dry and put in reg fuel, this did not help. We tried to adust the air mixure screws both ways and this did not help the problem, but we ended up turning the screws out a half turn and leaned it out. That really help the throttle response off the line. We ran the 700 at an elevation of around 4000ft and where I live it is about 600ft of elevation. I will try the same test to see it does it at 600ft. My friend that I ride with has a Prairie 650 and does not have the same problem. We think that maybe it is too lean in the mid range, but we are not sure with out some more tests. If you have any more info for me please let me know. Thanks

Mine is doing it and I am convinced it's the choke sticking, when I get to the slight bog, I choke it and it will almost kill the bike, if it was lean the choke should help a little, A rule of thumb is, when you are asking for power, it's usually rich, it your not asking for power it's usually lean, my 700 choke has NO pressure when I choke it, like there is no springs in there, they are so weak they cant push the plunger's back into their seat. when I get the new one's in I'll post back and let you know if it fixed it..........

Dino, I read your post again, and it backs up what i think about the sticking choke "rich", if you ran at 4000 ft. and if it was a little lean in the mid-range, that altitude would have more than richened it up if it was lean.....do what i did, for a test, get it to where it will bog again, then crack open the airbox lid just a little and let more air in, i did and the bog went away, it has to be the choke sticking causing it to run a little rich......

My P700 was doing the same thing. It has since gone away. My V700 did it a little also when new. Both bikes seem fine now. I have about 25 hrs. on the P700 and I don't notice it anymore. I though it was due to the engine being so tight.

Thanks Force, My dealer told me about 30 minutes ago, to ride it a while before we start tinkering with it, give it some hour's and it should go away...how long did it take before you noticed the "bog" went away? I know you said you have 25 hrs. mine has about 12 hours and 115 miles......

I have had the same problem that resulted in a set of very fowled plugs and a weekend of backfires and poor gas mileage on the trail. Seems to have gone away now that i'm at 13 hours and had the dealer replace the plugs (under warranty for their high altitude set up) but I haven’t gotten a whole lot of riding in with the new plugs especially at the higher altitudes. I'm in Colorado and ride anywhere from 7000 feet to 12000+ but most of the time I am in the 8000 to 11000 range.

Stakk,
I now have 27 hrs on the P700 and I don't really notice it anymore. Before the 10 hour mark it was pretty noticeable when the engine was hot. The V probabally has twice as many hours on it as the P and the Bog is completely gone. Things just need to loosen up a little better I'm pretty sure.
Good luck!
