Dirtwheels predator looked bad in the pics
#1
I was looking thru dirtwheels yesterday and one pic showed it getting KILLED. No doubt about it. It would take a lot more than a pipe to catch up. I never see many predators when i ride. I have seen maybe 7 in the last 6 months and only one was piped. The trailer queen took it out with out a pipe. 100 percent wensday built stock raptor was winning against a new predator with air filter kit and exhaust.
I was hoping for more from the predator. From the ones i have seen the riders showed no intrest in modding them. Must have traded in the utilities for them.

Dirtsqueels? Heck, just look at the source of your "info" cough cough......
My pred runs neck and neck with Raptors at Comp hill at Florence Dunes, if both engine internals are stock with basic mods like Pipes and airfilters.
It all comes down to rider weight and the hole shot. The new YFZ450 took me by a couple quad lengths consistantly. Hats off to it. 660cc Raptor riders really seem hurt to loose to a 500cc polaris, but like I said, its neck and neck and nobody is "smoking or blowing away the other guys.
I still like the pipe hit of my 2 stroke, and banshees still rule the dunes, but thumpers have come a long long ways recent years.

Don't go there 14mins...you just mention "superbike shop" in the polaris forum and guys seem to get all offensive. I was recently at some 300ft. dirt drag races where 290 quads showed up for the event. In the 400-500cc 4-stroke event, there were 49 quads in the class. The winner ended up being a HPD modded pred with pipe, rev box, high comp. piston, and springs. But I think it was only cause a lot of the yfz's beat themselves out or redlighted. Those yfz's are wicked quick...but several were having battery problems and having to do some bump starting...I think yamaha will sell a lot of kick-start kits if they don't get that figured out. But yes, hats off to yamaha...it is a sweet quad!

pudljumper- what were some times?? Dirt drags? What types of tires were used? Paddles, 4snows?
I have yet to see a yfz450 broken yet. That is strange that so many had the same problem. Hopefully the trannies will stay intact

you know what confuses me is that in dirtwheels a few months back they say that the predator will beat a piped and filtered raptor stock on top end. Then the raptor is 2mph faster than the yfz on top end and finally they show the predator getting beat by the yfz on top end. Very confusing.

I heard/read that the reaons that so many people had problems with electrical stuff is because they were jacking with the "free cam mod" and that is what caused it, not sure how or why. Anyway, I also heard that polaris is suppossed to be taking about 50+lbs off of the predator. That would make it way more competetive.

Two of the guys I ride with have Raptors 1 is completely stock and the other has a pipe jet kit and filter mod, I have just a pipe on my pred. It is really close between them. It really depends on who gets the holeshot and who mis-shifts. The stock Raptor can't keep up but the rider is about 260 pounds. I have riden all three and they are all impressive for being four strokes.
