oil tank fix?
#1
I rolled my DS my first time out about 1 year ago and snapped the oil fitting. Instead of going with the $9 fitting I see everyone selling and claiming to be the "fix" I went to autozone and bought the same exact brass fitting for about $1 but always wondered if I rolled it over again would the brass fitting give or would the can "tear" apart, Im betting on the can tearing. So anyway I have all the front plastic off my quad doing some work and starting taking a closer look at the can and wondered why doesnt anyone ever relocate the return fitting about 1 1/2" to the right so that if I rolled it over again it would just hit the can but there wouldnt be a fitting there to help destroy the can. Anyway the point of this is, that fitting is just the return fitting so I could essentially relocate it anywhere I wanted to as long as it was above the oil already in the can. I am thinking about tearing my bike completely apart this winter to have the frame, a-arms, swingarm and other parts powdercoated so I may take that somewhere to have it modified. I just wanted to see what everyone elses thoughts were on this.

I broke the fitting and replaced it with the stock fitting and carry a spare fitting just in case it occurs again. I would rather break the fitting than the tank.
The new tanks have the return line in a different location without a threaded fitting. Just don't want to buy another tank.
