Default Advice on a new rectifier

I'm looking for a little advice (scooby, hightower and others) on what, if any, other modifications I need to add along with a new rectifier/voltage regulator that supposed to produce a hotter spark. Any professional advice before I pop this in would be helpfull.

Thanks!

I dont think a regulator rectifier will give you a hotter spark. Seems to me only a coil would do that for you.

Changing the rectifier to get a hotter spark seems strange to me. This means your system will run at a higher voltage than it was designed for, will your lights and battery hold up? Wouldn't changing the coils make more sense? What do the stock DS coil put out. There are different G.M. HEI coils available that have hotter spark make suitable replacements.

that doesn't make any sense to me. the voltage regulator keeps the system voltage from getting too high. the CDI runs off this 12V-15V. a voltage regulator is a voltage regulator, I don't see the benefit?

Accel makes HEI coils at 48,000 volts.

I was looking at that yesterday. Why is it the only big mod I see is the CDI box? Wouldnt a pair of MSD coils work for our applications? I was thinking about some blaster coils made for offroad trucks but I didnt know if this would net any kind of gain and was wondering if anyone else has tried it. I also agree that a higher output rectifier wouldnt do much good.

as a side note, I've been experimenting with direct hits - http://www.directhits.com/ haven't come to a conclusion on them yet, but do have them on the ATV.

I'd be surprised to see something that could improve on the stock ignition system on a stock bike but I'm sure the higher pressures of high compression or turbos could benifit a hotter spark.
