moose winch and CC plow mistake for rubi?
#1
I'm wondering if I made a mistake. I just replaced a trusty '93 trx3004x4 with a '03Rubicon. I also ordered a blade from my Honda dealer. He recommended a 1700# Moose winch and a Cycle Country 48" steel plow. Are these good equipment? I'm new here and did a search for "Moose winch" and found none. The plow doesnt worry me quite so much. My dad had a 400 Arctic Cat with a plastic plow and what he thought was a cheap winch. Today when I went to visit I found he had a Warn 2000. I'm sure if I change my mind I'll probably get stuck with some sort of a hefty fee. Should I worry, exchange or relax. It will be used to plow snow and general farm work, especially winching stuck Center pivot irrigation systems. Dads works fine. Will I be disappointed?

I haven't seen a moose winch before as most people run a warn where I'm from. I will say a lot of people have the cycle county plow and they work just fine but I personally prefer the manual plow setup. My buddy just bought a used 350ES and it came with a BIG moose plow and I can honestly say it is much more rugged than the cycle country. I think the setup you have will work just great....my only concern would be that small plow. You have a big machine that will push a lot of snow...why such a small plow? Most guys go for the 5' up here.

I don't know for a fact but by looking at the pictures of Moose winches in the Mose catalog they look like exact clones of Ramsey winches, which are indeed very good.
However this is just observation not facts.

I really don't have any experience plowing with an ATV. I farm for a living so I've always had a tractor available. I now live 5 miles from the equipment so when I bought the Rubicon it seemed like a nice outfit to plow with. The guy that sold it to me said they prefered 48" for sidewalks and loading in a pickup. I guess I just didn't know how much Nebraska snow it could handle.

Nebraska snow?......pffftt hehehehe. Welcome to Canada! It will plow all the snow you want it to plow. The banks were above the roof of my car last year and we had no problem with a 48" plow on a 1992 300 Fourtrax so you will have no probs at all. The small plow is better for loading on a truck and getting into small places but you will find it is not quite wide enough to cut a comfortable path for the atv to fit in. The 48" plow will work just fine but the bigger plow would have been my personal choice...no biggy. Are you doing much technical plowing....like in around things or it is a straight driveway?
P.S. - when you first start to plow make sure you push the banks back at least 2-3 times further than you think you should. You will be amazed how deep the banks will get
