Default 2wd or 4wd option on RUBICON ????

I was talking with my dealer today, I am looking at the Rubicon, Rincon and Grizzly. He told me that the Rubicon was offered with the 2wd/4wd switch as an add on option for $300.00. Has anyone else heard of this ? Is this option aftermarket or through Honda ?? I would consider the Rubicon more seriously if this was through Honda and it was the same switch as on the Rincon.

Anyone have any more insight on this ??

I would have to think it is an addon. That I would think would be on all Rubicons if it came from Honda.

I think he is talking about the warn 424 kit. My buddy had one installed at Honda before he picked it up. They work great and it makes all the difference in the world for trail riding. If the bike is full time 4X4 then it is harder to steer in the steep, tight stuff.

the 4-2-4 would be nice to have but i will just powerslide in all time 4x4 for a while longer. Honduki wouldn't you want to have it in 4x4 for the steep stuff.

I like to ride the rubicon in 2WD until I hit the mud. There is no reason to run it in 4X4 mode in the trails around here unless you hit a black bog. With a set of ITP 26" Mudlites you just pile on the power and it makes it up everything. The reason I like the 2X4 mode is for down hill though. When you engine brake with all the wheels engaged it will fight the steering and it will make you want to go straight. With the front wheels unlocked it drives smooth and it's WAAAAAY easier to steer. One of my buddies has the kit and the other doesn't. I have logged about 1000KM on the full time 4X4 one and it works great but I find it gets tiring on twisty trips that last over 10 hours. The 2X4 mode on the other is just a rock shooting sport machine....amazing how it transforms it.

Know why the Rubicon doesn't come with selectable 2wd/4wd???? Honda has sworn that they will never build a machine that is over 600 lbs. The TraxLok would put the machine over 600 by a dozen pounds!!

I think Honda should at least offer it as an option. They would only be making an ATV over 600lbs. at the customers request then. I believe the Rubicon sales would increase dramatically, since it is more of a work horse than the Rincon and the Rancher.
