test drove an 04 scrambler 500

i must say it was comfortable, and good ergonomics. a few things bother me, though. first is the single lever braking. how safe is this if i get stuck on a steep hill and apply the brakes? secondly, has anyone ever had radiator damage from rocks that fly up when trailing someone? it just seems that it is not well protected. third, i really didn't care for the 2 square headlights. it kinda looks like some 80's robot. you would think polaris would change these to look more modern. has anyone changed them in any way other than removing them completely? i am seriously considering this quad. any help would be appreciated.

Well, there is also a foot brake as well so you don't lose it going down a hill. I have made my way down some steep hills with total control. I find that if you give it a litle gas to let the belt engage, then you will get someengine braking as well. As for the radiator, I have not had any problems at all. I also have a DG bumper to protect my front too. I have changed my headlights too. The stockers looked ugly and weren't bright enough. So, I installed some Pilot 55wt simulated HID lights. They have that blue lense. They look pretty cool. You can see them on my site.

I bought mine from Meijers. Or you should be able to find it at someplace like Walmart. Just look around for a set of lights that are about the same size as the stockers and have the same type of mounting bracket. I had to bore out my mounting bracket hole and grind a little bit of the headlight casing off, but it basically bolted on. I also wired it into the stock headlight wires. This allows me use the stock headlight switch. It works slicker than whale **** on an ice float

I had a cool set of lights and other things done to my 500. It really looked cool. The pictures are on my other computer and I'll try to get the part number. I know they were round, bolted right up and I got them from Krager/Checker.

You'll Adjust to lights... There nice because you can aim them where you want the light directed, Also nice when you steer & the lights go where you go.. Or if your bothered that much... Check out these
As for the Braking, The lever controls all 3-Brakes, Which is fine on a Mountain. You also have the rear foot brake.
As Bigbad said you can also get the DG-bumper to protect the radiator.. As of yet, I havn't had any trouble w/ the rocks, ect..
I just put on the Skids this weekend... take a look @ my Pix...
Well hope Everything works out for ya....

96trailblazer250,
I wish that I knew. I don't have an accurate way to check it.
I have a G-force pro that measures top speed and 1/4 and 1/8
mile times but I have to know the weight of my quad. Right
now that would just be a guess because I've cut alot of stuff off.
Its fast enough to stay with my brothers trail ported and piped
400 scram.
