Engine noise on warrior?? normal??
#1
hello my first post here.... i recently bought me a warrior.. my first sport quad i really like it.. its been more fun than my old fourtrax 300 4x4 was.. heres my question
at lower rpms in gears such as 2nd and 3rd when ur accelerating especially when ur going up a small slope or obstacle... i often get a clunking noise or kinda a rattleing noise from the engine area.. like valvetrain mabey..not sure.. but once it gets out of that certain rpm range it is gone.. ??? is that a warrior for u or ??
>>it oftens jumps out of reverse somtimes i hear thats normal tho,
>>and my clutch is a bit hard to pull and engages kinda late.. almost with lever all the way out... messed around with the lever adjustment screws and helped it a bit..still hard to pull

Adjust your valves and get a new clutch cable will help, yamaha clutch cables don't have much life before getting hard to pull, lube 'um and it will be good for a couple of weeks, but a $12.00 cable works wonders.

The clutch on mine don't engage until its almost all the way out.
I think that they are suppose to do that because a lot of people dont shift with there whole have on the lever. they will leave some fingers on the handlebar and just pull the clutch in with their middle and index finger or just their middle and when you leave some fingers on the handlebar you cant have the clutch engaging when its near the handle bar because you wont have any room to leave you fingers on the handlebar...you get my drift?

are you going slow up the inclines placing a bit of strain on the engine? If so, it could be pre-ignition ping. Try and keep your RPM's up .. if your engine is knocking going up a hill try downshifting to the next lower gear ..

Oh .. with the reverse .. feather the clutch a bit when putting it in .. it shouldn't pop out. I find it harder going back into forward, but the same trick works both ways.
The clutch doesn't engage as soon as you let out .. mine is like that as well, the lever is pretty well let go all the way before it starts to grab. If you clutch was engaging as soon as you let some pressure off the lever then the chances are good that the clutch is never fully disengaging, and riding constantly. On the flip side .. if your lever has too much play, then it will never fully engage ..

thanks for the reply's... i'll try the nickel trick.. and look into gettin a new cable..
as for the pinging.. i guess i'm so used to the low end powered band of my old 300 that i just do that sometimes when i'm ridin easier... and dont really need to downshift.. it really did it the other day when i went in and started on a donut.. in 2nd.. with lower rpms..
