Did you rejet your carb when you put your pipe and filter on?
Also are you sure it's backfiring when you let off the throttle and not just doing the regular popping/etc. that you get with a straight through pipe?

A backfire could be any number of things. Some more common things to look at are jetting and air leaks around the intake.I would not ride it until you get the issue resolved,as more than likely you have a lean condition that could result in severe engine damage.
If you want to try to handle it yourself, pull you plug(spark plug that is) and tell us what it looks like.
Good luck.
P.S. Check your air cleaner too....It may have fallen off or be damaged.

Exhaust leaks can also cause backfiring, especially if you're running rich. Unburnt fuel in the exhaust combines with oxygen sucked in through leak in the exhaust and ignites causing the backfire.
