Greetings,

My mower has a univeral hitch that uses a long bolt to link to the quad. The bolt is much smaller than the mounting hole on my 450ES and besides, I like keeping a ball hitch in the 450's mount for towing other stuff.

So the question is, do any of you use that small mounting hole on the rear axel of the Recon as a hitch? It looks like a perfect fit, but I'm not sure that is what its made for. Do I run the risk of over stressing the axel or breaking something? (I suspect the manual would offer some info here, but I just thought of it and the manual is three hours away.)

yea I think that that is probably the hitch on the Recon. My bayou has the same exact kind of hitch on it. It's connected directly to the center of the rear axle. As for towing from that point hurting anything, it won't. I've towed many of things with my bayou and it has the same hitch (by how you describe it).. Hope that this helps you!

On my Recon, there are two holes that are offset from each other. These are both used to mount a hitch bracket that will take a regular trailer ball. The bracket is not very expensive, maybe $25 or so. I would think it would be a better way to pull the mower because I'm not sure if it would stress the axle to use the single hole.

I have a trailer hitch on my recon and it mounts in those two holes, I dont think it would stress it because thats where it pulls from anyway.

I believe the hitch will utilizes the hole in the rear axle housing & the hole on the axle. There for the hitch won't stress one single part of the quad.

Cabelas has a aftermarket hitch for $19.99.

Greetings,

Thanks for all the replies. Just to be clear, unless I change the hitch set up on the mower (not easy) it won't connect to a regular ball hitch. The mower uses a bolt mounted on a swivel, so it needs a hole, not a ball.
