Best Trail Machine

Looking for a sport ATV with good handling and ground clearance for rough rocky trailriding. Considering 400ex, Z400, Raptor, and anything else. Was wondering how the Z400 compares to a 400ex and Raptor in particular, and if the Predator would be a worthwhile option. What are some of the pro's and con's of each? Are there any easy mods to improve trail performance, especially ground clearance. Thanks.

for the rocks, just get full skid protection,,,,go the 22" tires in the rear, and 23" in the front (6-ply)
The sound of rocks hitting the bike will still be a common occurence. Use strong rims.
the z400, 400ex, and raptor are all geometrically similar, with similar handling characteristics. The predator would not be best for rocky trails (too low slung and wide).

I actually like the low end power of the 400EX out on the trail, because the engine will lug down. The Z is a little more pipey and makes its power at a higher RPM, which requires more clutch work. For the tight trails I ride, the Raptors power is just wasted. Plus, the Raptor is a little top heavy and tippy. All 3 bikes are agile and have good suspension.
Have not ridden the Predetor, so no comment on that one.
