Input needed on new steering stem

I did a search on steering stems and it didn't turn up much of anything. My 400EX is in need of a steering stem due to a rollover. It wasn't even a hard rollover and the stem bent good. The factory stem must not be too tough. Does anyone know of a good strong stem and if a steering dampener is of good use. Any info would help out.

i see that im not the only one with this problem. i hate to tell you but you are going to wait a long time to get one. everybody is sold out. i got really lucky and found one at graydon proline. i got the last one they had. i bought a lonestar chrome stem with the anti vibe. it was 389 with 3 day shipping good luck. i bent mine the day before a race and spent half the night trying to bend it back decently straight

Try eastcoastatv.they have been selling them for $40.Dont know if they still have any left though.my stem is still bent straight back about 5*.dont have any problems with steering and kinda like it where it sits especially with my cr bend bars.eventually will have to replace it if it goes over again.Then I'll get a lonestar unit.

not that this is a total solution, but... A good friend of mine bought a 400 with a similar prob. The previous owner bent the steerer and instead of replacing it he fixed it---- He remover the old stem, useda torch to cut out the bent part. Then he inserted a steel bar in the stem and welded it all back together. After grinding the weld and repainting it looks very nice. And so far it has held up to just about everything-- including another rollover (my fault) I don't know if you have the ways and means to accomplish this, but good luck anyway

it would be very easy to make one. just mic the org. one and go get a peice of cold rolled steel the closest to the org. size and weld the ends on it would be a little heaver i you used solid steel but much stronger

All stock steering stem are trash one u roll and i am sure the handle bars bent. You can speand some more money and get an antivibe. I bought one a couple years back for my zilla and notice a difference in riding. I paid $329 for my stem also look around for a used antivibe stem. But dont get me wrong you can also bend the aftermarket stems. When i bought the TC 405 the lonestar stem was bent. what a crash that had to be

Go to www.houser-racing.com The made me a 2" over nickel stem that is a work of art. It came with anti-vibe Pro-Taper mounts. Got it in about 10 days. All together it ran $260. Unbeatable.

When you order a unit that is anti vibration, does it have the stabilizer built into it, or is it a 2 piece unit?

Anti-vibe stems and steering stabilizers are 2 different things. Anti-vibe stems reduce vibration by the use of 2 cone shaped rubber bushings that are installed at the top of the steering stem. Most steering stabilizers [like PEP or Denton] attatch to the steering stem about 6" above the tie rods and dampens the speed in which the steering stem rotates, or how quickly and forcefully the handlebars move from left to right.

Well, I had a friend take my steering stem to work where he has a press of sorts. He straightened it up pretty sweetly. Can't even tell it was bent (except for all the scratches, gouges, and dings that he put in it trying to do something he shouldn't have been). Anyway, still thinking about an aftermarket steering stem. Now, the only thing I need is a minimum of 240 bucks.
