Buying ATV (Wolverine or similar ATV)
#1
I currently own a Yamaha warrior and I do like it but I want something a little more of a utility. I like to do all types of riding and have owned other quads but I am a little indecisive on what I really want now. I do want a 4X4 but don't want to give up the sporty fun. I don't know if I want to make the complete jump to a total utility though. How do Utilities really compare to the sports. Can you play just as hard and does the extra weight of the utilities make them seam like a huge boat? I do want to do work around my property also, I don't think anything to rough, and I don't do to much racing. I definitely don't want to down size to a smaller ATV. Sometimes I would like to have more power. I also like manual transmissions, just something about shifting it myself makes me feel better. Any help and opinions would be appreciated. I just bought an 04 wolvy, LOVE IT!!!. I had an lt230s, it was fun as heck but could'nt do anything
else. Then i bought my trx300w, Great around the house but could'nt keep up with my friends.
Enter the 2004 wolvy, what A machine! I could'nt believe how much of both worlds I now can
enjoy, granted you lose A little towing capacity one way and A little speed the other,
but all in all its the best "all in one" quad you can find bar none.
Of course thats just my oppinion.

If you are used to a Warrior and want to switch to a utility but not lose the sportiness, I don’t think a Wolverine would be the answer, simply because I would think you’d want a power upgrade as well (if you do not, then the Wolverine might be OK). I had a Wolverine once, but it had a harsh ride (when compared to other utilities) and seemed under powered to me (I’m used to big bore dirt bikes and quads). You might be better off to check out a Suzuki Vinson for instance (500cc). From what I understand it comes in an automatic and a manual version (if you still want to shift). It offers a sportier ride than most (if not all) of its utility brothers. If you want more power still, try out a Kawasaki 650 or 700 Prairie as they have a good “sporty” rating too when compared against the utility field (although they are fully automatic) and are the power champions.
You can get an adrenaline rush on a utility too (if nothing else by just trying to keep it under control as you push it to the upper reaches of its envelope). But the very best thing to do if you can swing it is to have one of each – a sport quad and a utility quad, so you can choose your mount based upon the terrain conditions of where you plan to ride.

The wolverine is exactly what you want. It is just a little behind a warrior in power. I have taken mine to the dunes, the cinders, hunting, you name it. It works perfect. The racks come off so easily that you can just leave them behind for a weakend of sport riding. First gear is nice and low for crawling over anything and firfth gear is nice and fast for cruising the open roads. I'm also selling mine if your interested.
