Default Buying ATVs Out of State

Why is it that the best deals always seem to be out of state? When I contact a local dealer about some of the prices that I've seen from out of state dealers he says he's sure we can work out something but never says he can match the price.

I have a couple of questions. 1) Do you have to pay sales tax when buying one from out of state? 2) Will I be able to get it serviced locally if I buy out of state?

Thanks,
bhaynes

I live in Chicago but I buy all my atv's in Paris,TN. One reason is no sales tax and my buddy has a cabin down there so I can ride and party all @ the same time.I just bought a Prairie 700 camo version with a winch for $6999,no tax.I feel it was a good price and I saved $455.00 in tax.
Illinois does not register atv's hence no paper trail.

If you buy out of state, you usually have to pay the sales tax in your state when you register it. There is a reson to buy local, it's supporting a local power sport dealer. For the most part these guys are local families who love off roading and its good to take care of the people who want to take care of you. Remember, dealers are in this for money, thats how they pay their employees and put clothes on their kids backs. Support your local dealer whenever you can.

In the states I've lived in (MI and WI), you are still legally required to pay your state's sales tax.

Well there are 3 dealers within 30 min of me, and they all charge MSRP plus their freight, dealer prep,
and seems like what ever else they can think of.. the last 3 I've purchased I've driven over 2 hrs 1 way
to get, for one I even drove 4 hrs out of state, no taxes on that one.. the local dealers around here
just dont want to deal. they would rather make a ton of cash on the sale of 1 ATV as opposed to selling
a bunch of them making a little on each adding up to a lot of profit.

if you buy one in texas and claim it for farm us there is no tax. i bought mine in ark and did not have to pay tax there but they said i would have to pay tax here when i register it. i've never registered a bike or four wheeler that i was using off road.
