I am thinking about getting a yfz. however i ride alot of trails , some rocky. will I have a problem w/ trails?

 

Just get a thick skid plate, Thunder Alley pipe, gear it @ 14/40, then rip.

Isn't stock gearing already 14/40?? It's like any other sport quad, you just have to watch your lines and pick them accordingly. Try not to stradle high rocks, go around or take then with the tires. Most sport quads only have a rear axle clearance of 4-4.5" and a chassis clearance of 8-10" in the center of the chassis. 4x4's tend to have true 12" or better clearance if they have independant suspension. But yes, a sport quad can go in many places, they just may not be able to follow a lifted 4x4 through a nasty mudhole!

if he is worried about ground clearance, why would you tell him to add 2 teeth to the back to make the ground clearance less??
the stock gearing is 14/38. I am actually thinking about going to a 37 or 36. Get some more topend, and slow down the lowend to a more usable pace. Right now, with my current mods, its tooooo fast on the bottem.

coming from the raptor, which has .01 more ground clearance then the yfz (no difference), the yfz just does just fine. I have actually smacked more things with my raptor, partly because the gytr skidplate for the raptor is a huge piece of aluminum, where as the yfz has a two piece skidplate, that doesn't hang down as far.

I have full skid plates on mine and have yet to take a good to hit to any of them. So in my opinion, the yfz has plenty of ground clearance.

The other thing you have to think about is the more ground clearance you have, the higher off the ground your quad is going to sit, making it a lot less stable in corners
