350 warrior how can I lower it
#1
My son recently bought a 350 warrior but he hates the way it handles and I rode it and totally agree and I think the reason is its to tall. When he takes a turn in the woods it goes up on 2 wheels. I have a 300ex and it used to do the same thing untill I put a 400ex front end under it and it handles great because the front is wider than the back which makes cornering awsome. This is the first yamaha ive ever owned so I dont know much about them. How can I fix this problem. Also the shocks on the front are worn out (BLOWN) are there any better shocks I could sub. for these that arent to expensive. Any help would be great.

Get some different rims/tires. The Rims I bought Douglas .190s from RockyMountainATV.com had it so you can flip them around to get more off set so it is more stable. You could try that I would not recommend wheel spacers I've heard bad things about them.

Let the air out of the tires that'll lower it Just kidding I've got a pal with a Warrior and he turned his front wheels inside out also. He said it helped a lot. I'd say if your front shocks are blown that could be a lot of your handling issues.

I think with the Warrior it's not so much that it's too tall, but too narrow for it's height.
The simple and cheap fix for it is to invert the rims. I.e. put the right tire on the left and the left tire on the right making sure to keep the rotation the same. You'll probably gain about 3.5" in the rear and 4" or so in the front. You have to watch swapping around the front though, because of the valve stems. This is also easily fixed bye getting new valve stems. Remove the old ones and put a new stem in backwards (with the nozzle inside the rim) in the existing hole, and then drill a new hole the same size on the other side of the rim, placing a new valve stem in the new hole. If you don't fix the stems, the calipers on the front brakes will tear them off ;-)
Another fix for tippiness is to replace the rear tires with 20" ones. I'm presuming there's stock rubber on the quad now, which would be the dunlop 22", round sided tires .. they're crap (IMO). Replace them with a set of 20 x 11 x 9 razr's or similar. That takes a lot of the roll out of the turns. I have 22" razr's on the back of mine and wish now that I had bought 20's .. I was more concerned with ground clearance though for where I ride.
There's loads of shocks available for the warrior. You might want to look at a set of "Works" shocks. They can be expensive though. Any shock replacements are expensive, even the stock ones (at least to me). The warrior suspension is not very good. I find it comfortable, but it's too weak for jumping very much .. at least for me .. I'm about 170, and I bottom out the front with just 3' of air. My shocks are set to the softest though. Also, if you can find a rear shock from an '01 Raptor cheap .. get it .. replace the stock with the rappy shock .. I'm told it bolts right in place and makes an amazing difference to the quad!!
Good luck!

I completely agree that the problem is not height, but width. Flipping the rims is a must-do mod for any Warrior. After that, if it's still not wide enough, you're looking at bigger bucks w/ longer A-arms and rear axle.
Another thing you can do to flip the front rims is to order "flush mount valve stems" from JC Whitney. A better alternative IMO to reversing the valve stem and redrilling.
I have also heard an '01 Raptor shock will fit on the rear, but am not sure if it also raises ride height. On the front, if you don't want to spend big bucks on Works or other aftermarket shocks, Shee shocks are a good compromise (better than Warrior, but still far from aftermarket shocks).
